Achieved a sweeping settlement protecting the free speech rights of public school teachers and requiring a local school district to provide comprehensive training to protect students and staff from discrimination based on sexual orientation, race, gender, religion, HIV status, and other factors. In March 2001, the settlement was the first in California history to require staff education and classroom curriculum to combat homophobia in public schools.
